Ciao, my name is Federico, Leonardo Fiorilla dad, a truly champion of life.
Back in June 2020, I decided to harness the power of anger and sadness of Leonardo loss into something good for the world.
I started training preparation 4 year ago, just few months Leonardo took his trip.
Having such a goal, it helps to keep my mind focus, healthy.
I've started from zero training preparation
June 2021: I've attended and finished IronMan 70.3, Nice and IronMan 70.3 West-Frieslan with Kika, to collect as much as possible for the kids.
June 2022 another big challenge:
I decided to join the Giro di Kika!!
5 bike stages in the Dolomiti area with the same goal:
raise money and keep supporting Kika as much as we can
November 2023 New York Marathon
I did set up a goal of 6000 Euro. We end up at 7600 Euro! Thanks!!
And I finished the Marathon as well :)
October 2024: full IronMAn in Cascais, Portugal with Kika
3.8k Swimming
180k Biking
42.2 Running
So far I've raised for Kika over 25000 Euro.
Ride my bike from Leiden ( NL) to Barcelona.
1600km, by bike, solo, unsupported
300/350k a day, for 4/5 days
Since I do need to go to Barcelona for work, why not taking my bike and ride to there? And collect as much as possible for the Pricess Maxima Centrum?
I've set up a goal of 10000 Eur. It's a bit over 6Eur per each Km I will cover.
Would you support my ride, sponsor me, to support kids with cancer?
About Kika and the Princess Maxima Centrum:
Kika is the Dutch Cancer Free Foundation established in 2002 to give children with cancer the chance to be cured.
Children with cancer get cured in the Netherlands at the Pricess Maxima Centrum. The Family Hotel as we used to call. Really a special place!
Every year, almost 600 children in the Netherlands get cancer. At the moment 81% of all children with cancer are cured, the goal is to achieve a cure rate of 100%.
KiKa raises funds for innovative research ( more than 200 studies have been financed so far) and other activities in the field of childhood cancer, aimed at less pain during treatments, more healing and a higher quality of life in later life.
About my super son Leonardo:
My son Leonardo is my daily inspiration; he gives me the positive energies to challenge myself, to push harder and harder, to find the right motivation, especially now that he is not by my side anymore.
Leonardino, as I called him, taught us to live life in full, to smile even in difficult situations, to push ourself and enjoy every single moment, to have always fun and to take care of each-other. And this is what we do. It has been a real honor to be Leonardo's parents.
Leonardo just loved sports: swimming every Friday, going around with his bike (even during chemo treatment), spending as much time as possible at the gym at the Prince Maxima Centrum in Utrecht, snowboarding at his special place in Trentino, playing tennis, skateboarding, climbing or simply having fun outdoor and indoor!
On the 15th March 2019, instead of going to the swimming pool as per our usual Friday plan, we had to go to the hospital for some checks. We went back home later that Friday night with the worst outcome: Leonardo had a very aggressive cancer, a solid one, a Neuroblastoma. Our life crashed, changed on that day.
Leonardo had been informed as from day one on what was happening in his life, in his body. We had to find the right words but he knew everything, he wanted to know everything. We called his tumor a “ball”: he knew he had a ball on top of his kidney and that to remove it, to get rid of it, we had to go through several different steps, and he never complained about it. Never complained about anything! He was like a caterpillar pushing himself with positive attitude, smiling and enjoying life in every single moment.
Leonardo with his strong positive attitude, managed to face any possible scenario as from day one. Nothing could turn him down. It was a roller coaster that Leonardo accepted and lived in full.
Leonardo guided us to become stronger and stronger, he taught us how to handle life, even when not going in the right direction, to manage the crazy journey we were in.
On the 16th June 2020, after 1.5 year of fighting against the “ball”, Leonardo has taken peacefully his final trip, at the age of 5.
I hope with your contribution, we can help the Princes Maxima Centrum and help kids to fight against cancer.
Thanks for all!!
Federico
Papà of Leonardo!
