Skate for Prinses Maxima Centrum

Mijn neefje Luca van nu 15 jaar kreeg in december 2023 de diagnose Acute Lymfatische Leukemie. Een grote schok voor iedereen, maar voor hemzelf en zijn ouders en broer in het bijzonder. Hij doorloopt nu een intensief behandel protocol, wat betekent 1 jaar lang zware chemokuren, gevolgd door een onderhoudsfase met lagere doses chemo van nog eens 1 jaar. Gelukkig is zijn klinische respons goed, al heeft hij en zijn gezin het erg zwaar. Luca is een dappere strijder, we zijn erg trots op hoe hij en zijn gezin het doet.

Luca wordt erg goed behandeld in en door het Prinses Maxima Centrum (PMC). Hij ervaart dat er veel zorg is voor hem en dat er goed geluisterd wordt naar wat hij nodig heeft. Wij zien met eigen ogen hoe alle kinderen in het PMC de zware behandelingen moeten ondergaan. Mijn wens is dat elk kind dat met deze ziekte geconfronteerd wordt en de loodzware behandeling moet doorstaan, dit onder de best mogelijke omstandigheden kan doen. Ik ga op 31 januari de 200 km lange alternatieve elfstedentocht op de Weissense schaatsen. Wat mij motiveert om dit te doen is dat ik geld op wil halen voor Luca en alle andere zieke kinderen die vechten voor genezing. Minimaal 9 uur afzien voor mij, dat is niets vergeleken met Luca zijn behandeling en die van vele andere kinderen. Ik hoop dat jullie mijn actie willen steunen met een financiële bijdrage die geheel naar het PMC gaat. Met deze actie leveren we met zijn allen een directe bijdrage aan de missie van het PMC: het genezen van ieder kind met kanker, met optimale kwaliteit van leven.

My nephew Luca, now 14 years old, was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia in December 2023. It was a huge shock for everyone, but especially for him, his parents, and his brother. He is now undergoing an intensive treatment protocol, which means a year of heavy chemotherapy, followed by a maintenance phase with lower doses of chemo for another year. Fortunately, his clinical response is good, although he and his family are having a very tough time. Luca is a brave fighter, and we are very proud of how he and his family are handling it.

Luca is receiving excellent care at the Princess Máxima Center (PMC). He feels that there is a lot of care for him and that his needs are being listened to. We see firsthand how all the children at the PMC have to undergo these heavy treatments. My wish is that every child confronted with this disease and the heavy treatment can do so under the best possible circumstances. On January 31, I will skate the 200 km alternative Elfstedentocht on the Weissensee in Austria. What motivates me to do this is that I want to raise money for Luca and all the other sick children fighting to be cured. At least 9 hours of suffering for me is nothing compared to Luca’s treatment and that of many other children. I hope you will support my action with a financial contribution that will go entirely to the PMC. With this action, we are all making a direct contribution to the PMC’s mission: to cure every child with cancer, with optimal quality of life.
